SPB hires two partners from Morrison & Foerster

Squire  Patton Boggs (SPB) has unveiled two new IP partners in a boost to its life sciences team.

The two partners, David Manspeizer and Greg Chopskie, join from  Morrison & Foerster.

Manspeizer, based in SPB’s New York office, focuses his practice on complex patent issues including litigation, due diligence and infringement.

He previously served as vice president for IP and associate general counsel at Wyeth, a pharmaceutical company which was acquired by Pfizer in 2009.

Chopskie specialises in Hax-Watchman litigation and has served as in-house counsel at pharmaceutical companies including Pfizer, Gilead, Wyeth and Shionogi.

He has particular expertise in building litigation and commercial strategies to deal with generic competitors.

David Elkins, chair of SPB’s global IP and technology (IP&T) practice, said that the firm “already had strong patent and litigation practices in this area, but David and Greg bridge the two”.

“Among other things, the pair has spent many years helping innovator life sciences companies anticipate and plan for attempted challenges to high-value drug patent portfolios by generic pharmaceutical companies,” Elkins added.

Chopskie said that SPB’s “ international platform, proven industry track-record and collaborative culture made this firm an ideal match for us and for our clients”.

Manspeizer added that the pair were “attracted to the Squire Patton Boggs IP&T Practice’s stellar reputation, particularly for its work in the life science/health patent space”.
