Justices Floyd and Vos appointed to Court of Appeal
Patents Court judges Sir Christopher Floyd and Sir Geoffrey Vos have been elevated to the UK Court of Appeal from the Chancery Division of the High Court, it was announced in a government statement on Thursday.
Eight other Lord and Lady Justices were appointed to the court.
The appointments follow the elevation of Sir Terence Etherton, Sir Roger Toulson and Sir Anthony Hughes, the retirement of Sir Alan Ward and Sir Malcolm Pill, and forthcoming retirements of Lord Judge, Sir Bernard Rix, Sir Matthew Thorpe, Sir John Mummery and Sir Timothy Lloyd.
Her Majesty the Queen approved the appointments on advice of the Prime Minister and Lord Chancellor after recommendations made by a panel chaired by Lord Chief Justice, Lord Judge.
Sir Christopher Floyd has been a senior judge at the Patents Court since 2011. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1992, was deputy chairman of the Copyright Tribunal from 1995 to 2007, and was a member of Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys from 2005-07.
Sir Geoffrey Vos, who will also be promoted from the Chancery Division, is currently a nominated judge of the Patents Court. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel 1993, served as a judge on the Court of Appeal of the Cayman Islands from 2008-09, and was a member on the panel on Fair Access to the Professions in 2009.
