Boies Schiller Flexner gains anti-counterfeiting expert
The firm has hired a new partner and associate, both with anti-counterfeiting expertise, from a Silicon Valley boutique.
Boies Schiller Flexner (BSF) has welcomed Katie Kavanaugh as a partner in its Los Angeles office.
Joining Kavanaugh at BSF is Genesis Shin, who has been hired as an associate.
Kavanaugh and Shin have made the move from Silicon Valley-based boutique law firm, Thoits Law.
Maxwell Pritt, an administrative partner at BSF’s California office, said Kavanaugh’s “focus on anti-counterfeiting and IP litigation will be an important offering for clients firmwide, as that area continues to expand rapidly”.
The managing partners at the firm, Sigrid McCawley, Matthew Schwartz, and Alan Vickery said the hire of Kavanaugh and Shin complemented the firm’s BCF’s growth strategy.
“We will capitalise on opportunities to bring onboard high-quality trial lawyers whose experience and client base are a good fit for our existing platform,” said the trio.
In addition to her focus on anti-counterfeiting cases, Kavanaugh will concentrate on IP litigation, including patent infringement and invalidity, as well as copyright and trademark infringement.
At Thoits Law, Kavanaugh oversaw the IP practice and expanded the firm’s international presence. She previously worked as a foreign advisor on IP law across its London, Washington DC, and LA offices.
Kavanaugh specialises in global anti-counterfeit, trademark, and copyright infringement issues. She has experience in the US and international markets, including China, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe.
Her clients have ranged from individual artists, inventors, fashion brands, and global consumer goods manufacturers.
