Mathys & Squire announces six partner promotions

Moves enhance the firm’s expertise in supercomputing, AI, biomedical engineering, life sciences, and pharma | Mathys also announces the additional promotion of four within the partnership across London and Cambridge.

Mathys & Squire has appointed two new partners and promoted four individuals within the partnership.

Alan MacDougall, HR partner at Mathys & Squire, said: “These promotions are part of our strategy to recognise and reward the array of talent that we have at the firm.

“All those promoted have played a crucial role in our growth and we are delighted they will become an even more integral part of Mathys & Squire in the future.”

Max Thoma and Andrea McShane, both based in London, have been promoted to partner from managing associate.

Thoma is a UK and European patent attorney and UK design attorney whose work includes a large international patent portfolio related to supercomputing and applications of artificial intelligence methods.

McShane will join Thoma to work on patents with a range of clients including private inventors, SMEs and large multinational corporations. She has previously conducted research including biomedical systems, high-energy physics, and biomedical engineering.

Caroline Warren and Juliet Redhouse, both based in London; and Craig Titmus and Stephen Garner, both based in Cambridge, have all been promoted within the partnership.

Warren joined the firm in 2001. Throughout her career, she has worked across a wide range of technologies with clients including UK startups to global industry giants.

Redhouse has been at Mathys & Squire for nearly a decade as a patent attorney and focuses on the life sciences sector.

Titmus joined the firm in 2014 as a patent attorney and has been recognised for his work on a variety of technical subjects.

Garner has been a UK and EU patent attorney at the firm for a decade. He specialises in small molecule and biologic drug patents and has worked with clients from universities to global pharmaceutical companies.

MacDougall further commented: “These promotions—together with our recent senior hires of Helen Cawley, to head our trademark practice; and solicitor Nicholas Fox, to strengthen our litigation practice—demonstrate the continued growth and development of our senior leadership team.”
