Reed Smith adds European patent head
Reed Smith has hired Marianne Schaffner as a partner in the firm’s IP, technology and data practice.
Schaffner will be based in the firm’s Paris office, where she will serve as head of the IP team, and head of the patent practice in Europe.
She focuses her practice on complex patent disputes across a variety of sectors, including pharmaceuticals, telecoms, electronics and chemicals.
Schaffner previously worked as a partner at Dentons in Paris, where she served as European head of patent litigation and national co-head of the IP and technology group.
James Hultquist, group leader of the firm’s IP, technology and data litigation practice group, said that Schaffner was a “widely acknowledged leader in the field of patent litigation and with her extensive experience is ideally placed to help us to grow our patent litigation practice across Europe and the Middle East”.
Commenting on her appointment, Schaffner said that the firm “stands out for its ability to integrate sector-focused expertise on a global scale”.
