Intel, Dell and HP named in patent infringement lawsuit
Technology companies Intel, Dell and HP have been targeted in a patent infringement lawsuit by a California-based semiconductor company.
R2 Semiconductor filed the lawsuit at the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division yesterday, September 12.
The company claims that Intel, Dell and HP have infringed its patent, US number 8,233,250, which was published at the US Patent and Trademark Office in July 2012.
The patent covers voltage protection of a switching converter. The technology allows electronic consumer devices to operate at increased performance, while emitting less heat and having an improved battery life.
R2 claims that Intel makes, uses and offers to sell microprocessors which infringe the ‘250 patent.
Further, R2 claims Dell and HP have used the patent in their desktops, laptops, servers and tablets including Dell PowerEdge T20 and HP Pavilion 15.
The semiconductor company claims that Intel, Dell and HP have wilfully infringed its patent.
R2 is asking for damages up to three times the amount of compensatory damages found, attorneys’ fees and a trial by jury.
A Dell spokesperson said it does not comment on ongoing litigation.
A spokesperson for Intel said it has no comment on this at the moment.
