European Union sees 3% rise in value of fake goods in 2022

Major EUIPO and European Commission report says detained fake items were worth €2bn | China continues to be primary country of origin for counterfeits | Packaging scam trend ‘on the increase’ | EU customs reform on the cards aims to tackle problem.

The estimated value of fake items detained in the European Union increased by approximately 3% in 2022 from 2021, according to the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

The estimated value of these counterfeit goods exceeded EUR two billion.
