Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP has opened a new office in Taipei, and recruited partner Glenn Rhodes to run it, the firm announced in January.
Rhodes joins Kilpatrick Townsend from the Taipei office of Howrey LLP, along with associates Dr I-Wen Chu and Cindy Chou, and of counsel Dr YS Hsieh.
The firm now has five IP lawyers based in Tokyo and Taiwan, as well as four US-based IP lawyers who are members of the Asia practice team.
Between 1999 and 2006, Rhodes participated in a patent infringement case that resulted in two of the largest patent damage awards in Taiwan history, totalling more than $100 million.
Rhodes said: “Kilpatrick Townsend’s intellectual property department, with more than 300 attorneys, provides the perfect platform for enhancing service to our growing list of clients.”
He added: "[Our clients include] Yung Shin Pharmaceuticals, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in Taiwan, and companies in the life sciences industries."
A Howrey spokesperson said: “We thank Rhodes for his contributions and wish him well in his new endeavour.”
