Mathys & Squire hires SEP expert from boutique firm to Munich office

New partner brings expertise in standard-essential patents across several technologies | Firm aims to strengthen pan-European offering.

Mathys & Squire has appointed new partner Matthias Brittinger to its Munich office, as part of the expansion of the firm’s EU practice.

Brittinger joins from boutique IP firm Müller Hoffmann & Partner, and is a German and European patent and trademark attorney, and a European design attorney.

He has particular expertise in standard-essential patents (SEPs) related to telecommunications, processor, and codec technology, and is experienced in litigation across various other technical fields.

Brittinger is a member of IP professionals’ association VPP and the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI).

Andreas Wietzke, partner in Mathys & Squire’s Munich practice, said: “We are very excited to welcome Matthias to the Munich team.

“Bringing in Matthias as a new partner highlights the success and continuity of our pan-European concept since our Munich office was founded five years ago.”

Brittinger commented: “After ten years as a partner at a German boutique firm, I am happy to be joining a global player in IP. In particular, I was convinced by the fact that Mathys & Squire can provide IP advice all over Europe as a one-stop shop.

“At Mathys & Squire I’m looking forward to contributing to the firm’s litigation practice and acquisition work.”

Mathys & Squire has more than 80 qualified attorneys across offices in London, Paris, Munich, Luxembourg, Cambridge, Oxford, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and York as well as teams based in China, Japan and Belfast.
