DLA Piper adds fashion law pioneer to Los Angeles IP practice
New hire joins from Nixon Peabody | Los Angeles office partner brings expertise in copyright, trademarks, trade secrets and crisis management.
DLA Piper has extended its trademark, copyright and media practice on the West Coast with the addition of Staci Trager, a former partner and chair of the fashion and retail team at Nixon Peabody.
Trager, an IP litigator with experience managing high-profile cases in federal and state courts, will join the firm’s Los Angeles office as a partner.
Formerly an apparel company executive, Trager has particular expertise in the fashion and consumer products sectors, but the breadth of clients she has represented includes multinational music companies and nationwide retailers.
As well as advising on business, trade secrets and other IP issues, Trager has experience in crisis management situations to help companies mitigate unexpected reputational risk.
Some of the notable cases she has worked on include resolving copyright claims brought by a multinational music company related to the use of music in social media posts, representing a nationwide retailer in the dismissal of a class action false advertising suit alleging greenwashing claims, and resolving a trademark and rights of publicity case for the estate of a former rapper and entertainer.
Tamar Duvdevani, US chair of DLA Piper’s trademark, copyright and media practice, commented: “Staci has guided clients on some of the most pressing legal matters in trademark, copyright and fashion, helping them safeguard their most important assets.”
Los Angeles office managing partner Angela Agrusa said: “As we continue to grow our presence in Los Angeles and on the West Coast, Staci will be an important addition to our strong, innovative team of lawyers. We look forward to working alongside her.”
