Former in-house counsel at health tech startup joins Perkins Coie
New partner joins IP and patent prosecution practice in New York | Former Cleerly general counsel brings expertise in managing global IP portfolios.
Perkins Coie has added a new partner to its New York IP practice with the hire of Zach Hong, who was previously general counsel and chief compliance officer at digital healthcare company Cleerly.
With in-house and outside counsel experience, Hong will advise clients on a range of IP matters, including developing IP strategy and managing patent and trademark portfolios, conducting and defending IP due diligence, and drafting and prosecuting patent and trademark applications.
Hong led the IP strategy at Cleerly, which included managing a global patent and trademark portfolio, and negotiating IP and data licensing agreements.
He has also litigated patent and trademark disputes in the district courts, and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
Aaron Poledna, firmwide chair of Perkins Coie’s IP practice, said: “Zach’s extensive IP experience both in-house and as outside counsel to leading technology startups will be highly valuable to our clients and we’re excited to welcome him to our team.
“His deep knowledge of managing complex global IP portfolios will also be very beneficial to our clients and the legal challenges they face.”
Hong, who joins the IP practice and patent prosecution subgroup at Perkins Coie, commented: “Perkins Coie’s IP practice and platform has a stellar reputation and is well known internationally for the depth and range of its IP work and the successful solutions it delivers for its clients.
“Whether you’re an early-stage or multinational company, strategic IP management is increasingly critical to an organisation’s success, and I’m looking forward to contributing to the firm’s counsel and success.”
Perkins Coie’s IP practice consists of more than 275 lawyers and agents across the US and Asia.
