USITC begins investigation into complaint against Sony
The US International Trade Commission (ITC) has launched an investigation into a patent infringement complaint filed against Sony.
In an announcement made on Wednesday, June 7, the ITC said it would investigate certain consumer electronic devices manufactured by Sony, including televisions, game consoles, mobile phones and tablets, and network-enabled DVD and Blu-ray players.
Georgia-based Arris Enterprises had filed a complaint with the ITC in May, alleging violation of section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 in the importation into the US and sale of the goods.
Arris has asked the ITC to issue a limited exclusion order and cease-and-desist orders.
The ITC’s chief administrative law judge will assign to the case to an administrative law judge, who will hold an evidentiary hearing and make an initial determination on whether section 337 has been violated.
The commission will then make a final determination at the earliest practicable time and will set a target date for completing the investigation within 45 days after institution.
