EIP hires Dyson IP lead as partner

EIP has hired Colin Lobban, who joins from an in-house role at Dyson, as a partner.

Lobban has 20 years of IP experience, having served in senior in-house roles at the consumer products manufacturer, as well as two IP firms in London.

During his 12 years at Dyson, Lobban led the IP teams responsible for the vacuum cleaner and brushless motor divisions, and then later the automotive and battery programmes.

He was responsible for overseeing Dyson’s IP strategy, including all patent drafting, prosecution, and freedom-to-operate activities.

“I am thrilled to be joining such a progressive and thriving firm with a genuinely nice, and clearly very talented, group of people,” Lobban said.

“I look forward to contributing to EIP’s continued growth and hope that my past experience will prove valuable in maintaining EIP’s tradition of providing clear and pragmatic IP advice to its growing number of clients,” he added.

Lobban, who previously also worked at IP firms Forresters and Stevens Hewlett & Perkins, will be based at EIP’s Bath office.

Matt Lawman, partner and head of the Bath office, said: “I am delighted that Colin chose to join us at EIP. He brings with him a tremendous amount of in-house and commercial experience, which reinforces our approach and client offering.”

“Colin will be an asset to our fast-growing engineering practice, and I look forward to him becoming an integral part of the team here in Bath,” Lawman added.

Lobban’s appointment closely follows that of Gareth Probert, the former head of HGF’s Nottingham office, who earlier this month joined EIP’s medtech and healthcare practice, also as a partner.
