Walt Disney Company sued for patent infringement

A US business has named the Walt Disney Company in a patent infringement lawsuit centring on a storage system for broadcasting content.

Rothschild Broadcast Distribution Systems (RBDS) filed its lawsuit at the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division on Friday, November 11.

RBDS argued that Disney infringed its patent, US number 8,856,221, titled “System and method for storing broadcast content in a cloud-based computing environment”.

The US company added that Disney infringed one or more claims of its patent through Disney Movies Anywhere, which offers media content storage and delivery systems and services.

RBDS previously sued video-sharing website Vimeo at the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Tyler Division in March last year for the infringement of its ‘221 patent.

RBDS is asking for a running royalty, damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, and costs.
