USPTO hires chief of staff from White House

The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has hired Vikrum Aiyer as chief of staff.

Aiyer previously worked as a senior policy advisor at the White House, as well as serving as deputy chief of staff at the USPTO before that role.

His new role will see him co-ordinate the office’s $3.4 billion budget, support its 13,000 employees, and manage policy priorities, daily operations, and the global communications of president Michelle Lee’s intellectual property agenda.

The role is effective immediately.
