UKIPO evacuated after ‘suspect package’ found

The UK Intellectual Property Office’s (IPO) headquarters was evacuated this morning after a suspicious package arrived in the post.

Officers were called to the office in Newport, Wales this morning, August 19.

Gwent police confirmed on Twitter that a package was being removed from the office as a “precautionary measure”.

Police were called to the office at around 8.15am. It is not known how many people were inside the building at the time.

Policing commander for the area, Superintendent Glyn Fernquest, said: “We would like to reassure the public that we are worki ng closely with other emergency services to assess this incident.

“The safety of the workforce and local residents is paramount and we appreciate the support of the public during this time.”

UPDATE at 15:06: Gwent police has tweeted to say the incident has been resolved.
