UK law firm Irwin Mitchell Solicitors has bolstered its IP department with the addition of a partner and trademark attorney.
Alex Newman, formerly head of IP at Squire Sanders LLP in the north of England, will be joining in November alongside Kirsten Doherty, a UK and European trademark attorney formerly at Brown Rudnick.
Newman, who will be based at the firm’s Leeds office, advises clients on a range of IP issues, such as patent infringement and validity proceedings.
“There are significant growth opportunities for the firm’s IP/IT practice across multiple sectors, and I look forward to working with the existing team and the firm’s senior management to drive the practice forwards while the wider firm continues to invest in its litigation and commercial offerings,” Newman said.
Doherty was formerly in-house trademark counsel at easyGroup where responsibilities included the prosecution and enforcement of the company’s trademark portfolio, which includes the easyJet, easyCar and easyHotel trademarks.
The latest additions take the total number of partners to join Irwin Mitchell since the beginning of 2012 to 18, with 10 having joined in 2013.
