Trump opposes ‘Make America Great Again’ TM

US President Donald Trump has opposed a trademark filed by a textile manufacturer at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the term ‘Make America Great Again’.

Springs Global US filed the mark in November last year.

The mark covers goods such as bath towels, bed blankets and pillow cases.

Donald J Trump for President, Trump’s campaign organisation, filed an opposition at the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board yesterday, March 8.

The term ‘Make America Great Again’ was used by Trump during his presidential campaign last year.

According to the suit, Trump owns trademarks for the term ‘Make America Great Again’ in a number of classes.

Trump’s marks cover goods such as advertising signs, clothing, political campaign services, and headwear.

According to the suit, the marks are “valid and subsisting” and are “prima facie evidence” of the validity of Trump’s right to use the mark.

Springs Global’s proposed mark would probably confuse consumers over the “source or sponsorship" of the suggested goods, said the opposition, adding that the mark would also “result in damage and injury” to Trump.

Trump asked for the opposition to be sustained and for Springs Global’s application to be denied.

In February, WIPR reported that Trump had won the right to trademark his name in China for construction services.

Trump reportedly had 49 pending trademark applications in the country, all of which were made during his campaign trail.
