Top 100 TM application words revealed
TrademarkNow, a web-based trademark management company, has revealed the top 100 words used in trademark applications filed in the US and EU last year.
The word sitting in first place is ‘the’, which is used “twice as often” as second-placed ‘and’. Third is the word ‘of’.
According to a blog by TrademarkNow, new entries in the US since the 2015 data include the words ‘twenty’, ‘not’ and ‘eight’, which lie in first, second and third place.
‘Twenty’ was the highest new entry because it can be attributed to “two major events”: the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and the next US Presidential election, which takes place in 2020.
For the EU, new entries since 2015 include ‘per’, ‘co’ and ‘premium’.
According to TrademarkNow, the word ‘premium’ seems to suggest “consumers are seeking a high quality of life”.
The biggest risers in the US include the words ‘hundred’, ‘fit’ and ‘real’, while in the EU ‘global’, ‘k’ and ‘one’ are all climbers.
In the US, the biggest fallers are ‘technology’ and ‘smart’, and in the EU they are ‘go’ and ‘tech’.
However, the blog said that “they still feature in the top 100 which is significant and more importantly we have seen a pivot in how consumers interact with technology”.
The blog can be viewed in full here.
