Siemens employee arrested over suspected trade secrets theft

An employee at electronics company Siemens has been arrested in the Netherlands on suspicion of corporate espionage.

According to the country’s national financial crimes prosecutor ( translated), the man is suspected of leaking patents and trade secrets to a Chinese competitor.

He was detained at a train station in the Netherlands.

Following the arrest, the man’s luggage, his workplace and home were searched and digital media was found, according to the prosecutor.

Yashar Azad, a spokesman for Siemens, confirmed that one of its employees had been arrested and questioned by the Dutch authorities.

“The investigation is directed at the employee and not at Siemens as a company. We are fully cooperating with the authorities,” said Azad.
