Perkins Coie adds three partners

Perkins Coie LLP has hired three partners, all of whom join the firm’s patent litigation practice.

Both Joseph Reid (bottom, left) and Thomas Millikan (bottom, middle), based in San Diego, arrive from IP law firm Gartman Law Group. Tiffany Cunningham (bottom, right) moves from Kirkland & Ellis LLP.

Reid has experience in multi-defendant cases and disputes involving industry standards. His clients have included Microsoft.

As well as representing clients in court, Millikan provides counselling and advice on infringement, validity and re-examinations.

Cunningham’s experience, according to Perkins Coie, includes “defending a leading smartphone maker that resulted in one of the top defence verdicts in California in 2012”.

There are now 20 IP attorneys in the firm’s San Diego office, while eight IP attorneys have joined the firm’s Chicago office over the past year.

Thane Bauz, office managing partner of the San Diego office, said Reid and Millikan bring “a wealth of patent litigation and trial experience” from district courts and the US International Trade Commission.

“They also have substantive knowledge of the complex business and legal issues faced by technology companies today,” Bauz said.

Chris Wilson, office managing partner in Chicago, welcomed Cunningham’s appointment.

“Her sterling credentials will allow her to offer tremendous value to our patent litigation clients, and we are delighted to welcome her to the team,” he said.
