New Mexico State University (NMSU) has announced that it will open a Patent and Trademark Resource Center (PTRC) this month.
The office will open on September 21 and will be based at the university’s Zuhl Library.
It is part of the US Patent and Trademark Office’s national programme to give the general public the opportunity to receive patent help and information.
The PTRC library staff are trained on the use of search tools to access this information.
They will also provide the public with assistance in order to find the information that small businesses and inventors need to protect their intellectual property.
According to NMSU, the resource centre is important for the state of New Mexico as the closestsimilar centre is in Phoenix, Arizona.
The new centre will “essentially” serve the whole state of New Mexico, according to NMSU.
To accompany the opening of the centre, there will be seminar at the university which will cover patents, trademarks, copyright and trade secrets.
