Network-1 settles patent dispute with Alcatel-Lucent

Licensing company Network-1 announced yesterday that it has settled a patent litigation with Alcatel-Lucent and ALE, a company operating under the telecoms brand, over Network-1’s “remote power patent”.

The patent protects a technology which, among other things, delivers power over Ethernet cables to devices that are connected to power networks such as wireless switches, wireless access points and network cameras.

Alcatel and ALE, which were sued on September 15, 2011, both entered into separate settlements and non-exclusive licence agreements centering on US patent number 6,218,930.

The companies will pay licences for using the patent for its full term, which will end in March 2020.

Network-1 will receive a total sum of $4.3 million, of which $2.3 million is payable in three equal quarterly payments, if the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Tyler Division issues a ruling on a pending validity motion regarding the patent.

Network-1 initiated patent litigations against 16 companies back in September 2011 for infringement of its “remote power patent”.
