ITC to investigate Beats by Dre headphones
The US International Trade Commission (ITC) has announced it will launch an investigation into “certain noise cancelling headphones and components thereof”, just one month after Bose, a speaker maker, sued rival headphone company Beats Electronics for patent infringement.
Bose filed suit against the Beats by Dre headphone manufacturer, Beats Electronics, at the US District Court for the District of Delaware on July 25, accusing it of infringing five patents covering its noise cancelling headphones.
In its complaint it claimed that Beats Electronics had violated section 337 and asked the ITC to issue a limited exclusion order and cease-and-desist orders.
The ITC’s notice of investigation, issued on Wednesday (August 27), identified the respondents as Beats Electronic LLC, based in California; the Ireland-based Beats Electronics International; Fugang Electronic, which is headquartered in China; and PCH International, also based in Ireland.
The agency said it will set a target date for completing the investigation within 45 days of its institution.
