IPOS announces new chief executive

Tan Yih San is to step down from his position as the chief executive of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS).

He will be replaced by Tang Heng Shim Daren, who will assume the role of chief executive from November 16.

Tan, who WIPR interviewed for our September/October issue, had been chief executive of IPOS since 2011 and will now take up a role in the private sector.

Under Tan’s watch, in September IPOS became the first ASEAN country to work as an international searching authority (ISA) and an international preliminary examining authority (IPEA) under the Patent Cooperation Treaty.

Last month, IPOS was recognised by Thailand’s Department of Intellectual Property as an ISA and IPEA.
