Eurasian Economic Commission granted WIPO observer status

The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has been granted observer status at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

According to a report on Belarussian news website BelTA yesterday (October 29), the EEC said it had been granted permanent observer status.

Organisations that are granted observer status are recognised as participants by the organisation’s member states and are able to interact with staff on IP issues.

“The status at WIPO attests to the recognition of the significant contribution of the EEC to the matter of intellectual property protection in the Eurasian Economic Union,” the organisation’s press service said.

The EEC was established to promote the development of a customs union and a “single economic space.”

It is currently made up of three countries: Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.
