The Council of the European Union has chosen António Campinos as the next president of the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM).
He is expected to replace the current president, Wubbo de Boer, on October 1.
Wubbo de Boer is retiring after consecutive five-year terms. Campinos, head of the Portuguese Institute for Industrial Property, will be joined in senior posts by five new appointments, with Christian Archambeau becoming vice president.
The OHIM boards of appeal are welcoming Paul Maier as president, while the council also selected Théophilos Margellos, Tomás de las Heras Lorenzo and Detlef Schennen as chairs of three appeal boards.
Each of the new appointments may remain in position for five years, starting from a date decided by the OHIM Administrative Board. Campinos was the sole name put forward for president by the Administrative Board, which voted on the candidate. Internal rules say that when one candidate receives 75 percent of the votes, a single name will be put forward for the job.
Three names were put forward for the role of vice president.
