Dengate-Thrush joins NZ Copyright Tribunal

The government of New Zealand has added Peter Dengate-Thrush to the Copyright Tribunal for a five-year term.

The barrister and patent attorney will replace Judith Fyfe on the tribunal.

Dengate-Thrush, who specialises in Internet, IP and technology cases, currently works as chairperson of the board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. He is also president of the New Zealand branch of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property.

Previously, he was the chairman of the Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association and InternetNZ.

Simon Power, New Zealand’s commerce minister, said: “[His] knowledge and expertise in the areas of information technology and copyright law will be of great advantage to the tribunal.”
