Crowell & Moring establishes domain name practice

Crowell & Moring LLP has launched a top level domain (TLD) and domain name practice.

The practice will be co-led by Brussels-based partner Flip Petillion and Washington, DC-based partner John Stewart, Jr.

It will counsel brand owners on the best strategy to protect and enhance their brands, and how to prevent online infringement.

Brussels-based counsel Bart Lieben has joined the firm to bolster the new practice. He was previously a partner at Laga, a Belgian law firm.

He has experience in intellectual property, telecommunications, media and technology law. Lieben advises clients in the organisation, implementation and launch of new TLDs.

Stewart said: “The introduction of generic top level domains offers a wealth of opportunities, but it also presents great challenges, as companies and operators around the world seek to use the new regime to their advantage.”
