CIPA elects former Merck counsel as new president

The Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys has elected Tony Rollins as president of the association.

Rollins was elected at the 134th annual general meeting yesterday, May 11.

Rollins has experience as a patent attorney and has previously worked as managing counsel for European patents at pharmaceutical company Merck Sharp & Dohme.

He said: “In my presidency, I feel it is important to build on what has been achieved in the past few years by continuing to work effectively for our members, particularly in relation to policy initiatives and education.

“We need to liaise closely with the UK Intellectual Property Office, for example, on patent harmonisation, and continue to develop our relationships with the European Patent Office and World Intellectual Property Organization,” he added.

He succeeds Andrea Brewster as president.
