Chinese company Hangzhou Chic Intelligent Technology has sued a US company in a patent infringement case centring on technology used in hoverboards.
The complaint was filed at the US District Court for the Central District of California. According to Hangzhou, Razor USA has used and continues to infringe its design patent, US number D737, 723.
Razor's allegedly infringing hoverboards are called Hovertrax and Hovertrax DLX.
In the complaint, filed on May 19, Hangzhou said the designs of the hoverboards are substantially similar to its design patent.
Hangzhou is seeking a court order preventing Razor from continuing to infringe its patent along with damages.
Jiawei Ying, Hangzhou's chief executive, said: “Chic is obligated to do so not only to protect its own intellectual property, but to protect consumers around the world who love the hoverboard products”.
Hangzhou owns 70 patents for its hoverboard in jurisdictions including China, the US, the EU and Canada.
