China cuts trademark fees in half

The China Trademark Office has lowered all its official fees, cutting them in half.

Announced yesterday, March 30, the cut in fees will become effective tomorrow, April 1.

A trademark application now costs RMB 300 ($44) per class, while applying to renew a registration will cost RMB 1,000 per class.

An appeal procedure before the Trademark Review and Adjudication Board will cost RMB 750, while an opposition filing will cost RMB 500.

Law firm Chofn IP translated the announcement.

In February, WIPR reported that China handled nearly 3.7 million trademark applications in 2016.

This secured its place as the world’s largest IP office for 15 consecutive years.
