Broadcom takes on Amazon in patent lawsuit
Semiconductor company Broadcom has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against online retailer Amazon.
In the suit, filed at the US District Court for the Central District of California on Friday, September 23, Broadcom and its parent company Avago Technologies alleged that Amazon has infringed 11 patents.
Broadcom claimed that the patents, which concern decoder systems, are being infringed by Amazon’s Fire HD 10 tablet.
“Amazon’s infringement will continue to be wilful and deliberate, and has caused and continues to cause substantial damage to Broadcom,” said the filing.
According to the suit, representatives of Broadcom and Avago had repeatedly attempted to engage Amazon in licensing discussions.
“In a last attempt to engage in discussions without litigation, Broadcom again contacted Amazon on or about June 22, 2016 to request a meeting. Amazon did not respond to Broadcom’s inquiry. Left with no other choice, Broadcom brings this action,” said the filing.
Broadcom is seeking injunctive relief, damages, exemplary fees and attorneys’ fees.
