Broadcom accuses LG of infringing five patents
Semiconductor company Broadcom has taken on Korean electronics company LG in a patent infringement lawsuit.
Filed at the US District Court for the Central District of California, Southern Division on Tuesday, March 7, the claim accused LG of infringing five patents.
The patents, US numbers 8,284,844; 7,590,059; 8,068,171; 7,310,104; and 7,342,967, concern decoder systems, video graphics and video recording.
“Broadcom’s continued success depends in substantial part upon its constant attention to research and development. From 2015 to 2016, Broadcom spent $3.7 billion on research and development for its products,” said the claim.
It added that as of October 30, 2016, Broadcom had approximately 27,640 US and other patents, and approximately 3,020 US and other pending patent applications.
The allegedly infringing products are semiconductor components and consumer audiovisual products.
LG allegedly infringed the patents by selling LED and smart TVs.
The suit added: “The infringing activities by defendants have caused and will continue to cause irreparable injury to Broadcom for which there exists no adequate remedy at law.”
Broadcom is seeking injunctive relief, damages, triple damages, a jury trial and attorneys’ fees.
