Avidity IP hires new head for pharma team

European patent and trademark firm Avidity IP has hired former chief patent counsel at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Dr Sally Mannion, to lead its pharma and nutrition team.

From May 1, 2012, Mannion will also hold a business unit directorship with strategic responsibilities.

She brings to Avidity IP experience in litigation throughout Europe (including the Court of Justice of the EU) and in several other jurisdictions, EPO oppositions and other contentious practice, as well as a wealth of other IP practice and IP management skills. With her substantial biologics experience, Mannion will create a bridge between Avidity IP’s pharma and nutrition and life sciences teams.

Following her studies, Mannion joined ICI (now Astra-Zeneca) as a research fellow, transferring to the IP function in 1986. She joined the European patent department of Wyeth (then American Home Products) as a senior patent attorney in 1996, becoming director of patents and trademarks in 2006. Following the acquisition of Wyeth by Pfizer in October 2009, Mannion undertook consultancy work and then worked for Cleveland.

“The appointment of Sally Mannion continues the growth and development of Avidity IP and demonstrates our continued commitment to providing the best possible service levels for our clients,” said Malcolm Lawrence, CEO of Avidity IP.

“As soon as I met the people at Avidity IP, with their excellent professional reputation, client focus and energetic corporate team approach to the IP market, I knew this was the place for me!” said Mannion.

She will be based principally at Avidity IP’s offices in Reading, UK.
