Apple sued for patent infringement by two-month-old company

A company that was formed nearly two months ago has sued multinational business Apple for allegedly infringing a patent covering mobile phones.

In a lawsuit filed at the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on Wednesday, December 2, Iris Connex claimed Apple’s iPhone 5 model and all models produced since then have infringed the patent.

The patent, US number, 6,177,950, was acquired by Iris Connex from Canadian company AVT Audio Visual and is called “Multifunctional portable telephone”.

Iris Connex claims that Apple had prior knowledge of the terms and conditions of the patent and willingly continues to directly infringe it.

It has asserted “at least” claims 1, 2, 19, 22, 30 and 32 of the patent, which covers the incorporation of dual cameras in Apple smartphones.

According to the  Patently Apple blog: “The ‘950 patent is a prominent, pioneering patent in the field of multifunctional portable telephones, ie, smartphones, and related devices such as tablets.”

Iris Connex, based in Texas, was formed on October 13 and has already sued technology companies HP and Acer America for allegedly infringing the same patent.
