Company Profile:

FRKelly, as the leading Intellectual Property firm in Ireland, specialises in filing, prosecution and opposition work before the EPO and the EUIPO. The firm combines a reputable heritage with a pioneering vision and understands the value of innovation to an economy, representing many start-ups, entrepreneurs and research institutions, including Irish and US universities. While popular among domestic entities, the firm’s long-standing legacy has garnered an established international network, with more than half of its clients availing of its expertise from abroad, particularly prestigious US multinationals.

FRKelly has a strong affinity with a broad spectrum of sectors from life sciences, cleantech and medical devices to software, computing and engineering.

Patents: FRKelly has a long established and extensive patent practice, with a complement of 18 attorneys including European Patent Attorneys, Registered Patent Agents, Chartered Patent Attorneys and a certified Patent Litigator operating out of offices in Ireland and the United Kingdom. Our diverse team cover many different practice areas, with particular expertise in life sciences, computing and electronics, and engineering. Our primary focus is the filing and prosecution of patent applications before the European Patent Office, in addition to extensive experience in opposition and appeal proceedings. We work with the full spectrum of clients from individual inventors, through technology transfer offices at all the major Irish Universities, to local and international corporations, and are known as a stable, reputable and internationally known practice.

Trade Marks: FRKelly’s trade mark practice operates at national level (Ireland & UK) and on an international basis (EU, International Registrations), providing user-friendly and practical advice with clear recommendations from native English speaking attorneys. The trade mark team have a wealth of experience across all industry sectors, and have been described in international rankings as a market-leading “deep pool of talent” of “exceptional quality” who are “always on hand to answer queries when they arise, without ever having an eye on the meter”. FRKelly is adept at handling bespoke reporting and invoicing requirements for multinationals, as well designing scalable strategies for new brands.

Designs: FRKelly’s design attorneys provide expert advice on both securing and enforcing design rights in Europe. The attorneys in FRKelly are at the forefront in the rapidly evolving world of design right protection, with particular expertise in protecting graphical interfaces, animated designs, icons, logos and other non-traditional designs. Another particular specialism is the complex area of overlap between copyright in product drawings and design rights. FRKelly’s attorneys represent design clients from around the world before the EUIPO (formerly OHIM), the UKIPO and the Irish Patents Office, and are actively involved in expert design committees of FICPI, ECTA and APTMA.
